The engineering behind your quote

If you install it, build it or supply it, you sometimes need a design, a calculation or a drawing set before you can price the job. That is what I do: mechanical and structural design, kitchen exhaust and ventilation, and manufacture-ready drawings, delivered to a date we agree before I start.

01Who this is for

Four kinds of call I get most.

01

Mechanical contractors

You have been asked to price a kitchen exhaust or a ventilation job with no design behind it, so every quote on the table is different.

  • Hood sizes, airflows and fan duties
  • Duct layout and pressure calculations
  • Make-up air and control philosophy
  • A package the whole market can price
02

Fit-out builders

The tenancy needs mechanical documentation for the building permit and the council, and the programme will not wait.

  • Preliminary concept in days, not weeks
  • Drawings and calculations for lodgement
  • Clause compliance set out plainly
  • Answers to the surveyor and the EHO
03

Fabricators and workshops

You have a sketch, a photo or a model and need drawings your shop can build from, or a calculation to back a design.

  • Shop and fabrication drawings to AS 1100
  • Weld schedules, bolt callouts, BOMs
  • Hand calculations and FEA where it counts
  • Design modifications that keep it buildable
04

Equipment suppliers

Your customer needs the surrounding engineering before your equipment can be ordered or installed.

  • Integration of your equipment into the design
  • Supports, platforms and access
  • Ventilation and services around it
  • Documents the customer's approver accepts
02How it works

No surprises for you or your client.

  1. Call or email

Tell me the job and the date you need it. Free scoping call, no obligation.

  2. Fixed fee

A written scope and fee, usually within 48 hours, with what is included and what is not.

  3. Delivery

To the agreed date. If something changes, you hear it early, not on the due date.

  4. Support

Questions from your client, the surveyor or the council answered while the job runs.

Your client stays your client. I can work behind your name or alongside it, whichever suits. If you would rather I never speak to them directly, that is fine, and it is written into the scope.

Confidentiality. NDA on request, and I never publish client names or identifying details of a job. Anything on this site described as an example is anonymous.

03Straight answers

The questions that come first.

How fast can you turn something around?

A preliminary concept for a kitchen exhaust is usually days. A full design package depends on the site data; I give you a date with the fee and hold to it. If your deadline is not realistic, I say so before you engage me, not after.

Do you install or certify the installation?

No. I do the design and the calculations as a mechanical engineer (MIEAust). Installation, commissioning and the installer's certificates are yours or your subcontractor's, and gas work is certified by a licensed gasfitter. Where a job needs sign-off from a registered practitioner, that is coordinated with one and flagged upfront.

Will you quote against me on the same job?

No. I sell engineering, not installation, fabrication or equipment. That is the point of working together.

Can you work from a sketch or a photo?

Yes, and often that is all that exists at the start. I will tell you what else I need and what I have assumed until it arrives, and every assumption is listed in the package.

Need a design before you can quote?

Send the job and the date. Free scoping call, then a fixed fee in writing, usually within 48 hours.
